WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell made the following remarks on the Senate floor Wednesday regarding the importance of getting it right on health care reform:

“Senate Democrats recently tried to pass a so-called doc fix that would have forced seniors to pay higher premiums — on top of the half a trillion dollars they want to cut from Medicare. Fortunately, this bill was rejected by a wide bipartisan majority. While we all think this problem needs to be addressed, this is not the way to do it. And I’m confident that should a similar bill pass the House later this week, we’ll reject it again.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell made the following statement regarding the latest health care bill and the importance of getting it right on health care reform:

“While Americans have been clear about their opposition to thousand-page bills for new government programs, it’s now abundantly clear that Democrats haven’t been listening. This is yet another trillion-dollar experiment, but it is not what Americans bargained for.

“This bill has been behind closed doors for weeks. Now, it’s America’s turn, and this will not be a short debate. Higher premiums, tax increases and Medicare cuts to pay for more government—the American people know that is not reform.”

Government debt has increased by $1.4 trillion—since January

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell made the following statement Tuesday regarding the news that the national debt now exceeds $12 trillion for the first time in U.S. history:

“Americans got a double-dose of bad economic news this month. Days after learning that the unemployment rate ballooned past 10 percent, we learned that the national debt now exceeds $12 trillion for the first time in American history. This should serve as an urgent warning that the government can’t keep spending money it doesn’t have. Thousand-page bills that spend too much, borrow too much and tax too much are exactly the wrong approach for creating jobs. It’s my sincere hope that the administration will work with us on bipartisan efforts to reduce the debt, lower health care costs and help employers grow jobs.”
