WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) released the following statement today regarding the passing of Dr. Salem George:

“Dr. Salem George’s remarkable life could have only happened in America. Although his mother didn’t speak English when she came to this country and his father had no formal education beyond the seventh grade, Salem reached the highest levels of academic and professional success.

“A champion for the University of Louisville and a respected family physician for more than a half-century, I was honored to call Salem my dear friend. As a doctor, a philanthropist, and a mentor to aspiring young people, Salem touched countless lives with his abundant generosity. Elaine and I join all of those who knew Salem in expressing our deepest condolences to his wife, Eva, their children, and to the entire George family during this difficult time.”
