“Democrats Said ‘Our Way or the Highway’”

‘From the beginning, our side has tried everything possible to find common ground and deliver more help. But Democrats said no. At least the American people know the score.’

‘From the beginning, our side has tried everything possible to find common ground and deliver more help. But Democrats said no. At least the American people know the score.’

WASHINGTON, D.C.U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) issued the following statement today regarding the statement from William Evanina, Director of the National Counterintelligence and Security Center:

“I appreciate Director Evanina informing Americans about foreign powers’ efforts to divide us and interfere in our politics.

“This Administration’s efforts to combat foreign influence and political interference represent a vast improvement over 2016. The Intelligence Community has shared more details with Congress and the American people and taken more steps – in concert with the states and private sector – to defend our elections than four years ago.

“It is no surprise our adversaries have preferences in our elections. Foreign nations have tried to influence our politics throughout American history. As Director Evanina’s statement makes clear, Russian malign influence efforts remain a significant threat. But it would be a serious mistake to ignore the growing threats posed by China and Iran.

“One of our most effective defenses against our adversaries’ efforts is for Americans to be educated consumers of divisive or sensational headlines and social media posts. I am confident American voters will make informed decisions about the political leaders they want and reject the fear-mongering that seeks to undermine confidence in our institutions and elections.”

‘So this is where we are. Another week that the Speaker of the House and the Democratic Leader have spent stonewalling the President’s team in talks and holding out for ideological pet projects with no relationship whatsoever to the COVID crisis. And now, as a result, struggling Americans are facing another cliff, with another important form of relief on its last legs.’
