WASHINGTON, D.C.U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) released the following statement following meeting with the president’s nominee for Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo:

“This morning I had the opportunity to meet with CIA Director Mike Pompeo to discuss his nomination to be our nation’s next Secretary of State.

“His mastery of the myriad threats confronting us, and determination to meet those challenges with the strength, intellect and insight he brought to his current position was reassuring.

“Our Nation is fortunate that this patriot and proven leader had agreed to serve, yet again, on behalf of the American people and our national security.”

‘But deeper than institutional history, it is the spirit of these veterans that endures. Their pluck and patriotism prove that any American could rise to defeat the foes of freedom. So, it is our privilege to salute the OSS veterans present today, and our duty to give thanks for those who have passed on. How fortunate we are that these heroes answered the call.’
“I know there is a lot of excitement in my state of Kentucky. From coal country to farming communities and everywhere in between, Obama-era overregulation was holding our economy short of its full potential. These opportunity zones offer a shot at real relief. According to our Cabinet for Economic Development, Kentucky may designate as many as 144 new zones, prioritizing growth in areas that need it most."
