WASHINGTON, D.C. U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) released the following statement today regarding the passing of former U.S. Senator for Kentucky, Walter “Dee” Huddleston:

“I want to offer my sincere condolences to the family and friends of Senator Walter 'Dee' Huddleston.  As a member of the Greatest Generation, Dee proudly served Kentucky and our nation: first in the United States Army, next in Frankfort, and then in the U.S. Senate. With a serious approach to the issues and a constant support for our agriculture, Dee earned the respect of his colleagues and Kentuckians throughout the Commonwealth.

“When we each had the opportunity to share our visions for Kentucky’s future in 1984, I experienced Dee’s tenacity, competitiveness, and skill firsthand. He was a tough competitor, and I always respected him for his service to our home state. Elaine and I were saddened to hear of Dee’s passing, and I hope that the memories of his life will bring comfort to those who knew him in this time of grief.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) released the following statement today regarding the passing of Dr. Salem George:

“Dr. Salem George’s remarkable life could have only happened in America. Although his mother didn’t speak English when she came to this country and his father had no formal education beyond the seventh grade, Salem reached the highest levels of academic and professional success.

“A champion for the University of Louisville and a respected family physician for more than a half-century, I was honored to call Salem my dear friend. As a doctor, a philanthropist, and a mentor to aspiring young people, Salem touched countless lives with his abundant generosity. Elaine and I join all of those who knew Salem in expressing our deepest condolences to his wife, Eva, their children, and to the entire George family during this difficult time.”

‘Yesterday, the Senate passed broad, bipartisan legislation to maintain our nation’s waterways and drinking water systems. Now, we’re turning back to the personnel business and confirming more of the president’s qualified nominees to important executive branch positions.’
