Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell made the following statement Wednesday regarding the death of former Kentucky State Representative DeWayne Bunch:

“I am saddened by the loss of former Representative DeWayne Bunch. As a teacher and state representative, DeWayne served the people of the Commonwealth, especially those in Whitley and Laurel counties, with distinction. He also proudly served our country in Iraq as a member of the Kentucky National Guard. Elaine and I send our condolences to his wife, Regina, his family, and all those at Whitley County High School that knew and loved him.”

Republican Leader calls for votes on competing tax measures: ‘One on the President’s proposal to raise taxes on nearly one million business owners in the middle of the worst economic recovery in modern times, and one that would extend current income tax rates for one year and task the Finance Committee to produce a bill that would enact fundamental, pro-growth tax reform.’

‘No one should see an income tax hike next year—not families, not small businesses, no one. We should extend all the income tax rates while we make progress on fundamental tax reform. It’s time to put the failed policies of the past three and half years aside and try something else.’
