Washington, D.C.– U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell released the following statement today in which he called for quick Senate reconfirmation of Kristine Svinicki to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission:

“With today’s renomination of Kristine Svinicki to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, it is critical that the Senate act quickly to confirm Ms. Svinicki before her term expires on June 30. I agree with the White House that there shouldn’t be a break in her service on such an important Commission that ensures the safety of our nation’s nuclear power plants. Commissioner Svinicki was confirmed to her current term without a single dissenting vote. As one of the world’s leading experts on nuclear safety, she has served with distinction as a commissioner, and deserves a speedy reconfirmation. The 4,000 career employees at the NRC rely on her leadership and the American people need her expertise on the Commission.”

‘At a moment when tensions are rising in the Middle East, millions of Americans are struggling to find work and millions more are struggling with the rising cost of gas, the Obama administration’s opposition to the Keystone XL pipeline shows how deeply out of touch they are with the concerns of middle-class Americans. When it comes to delays over Keystone, anyone looking for a culprit should look no further than the Oval Office.’
